Hi everyone and welcome to Grade 5 this year. I would like to take the opportunity to introduce myself. My name is Mr Mike Stanley and I come from New Zealand. I am very excited to be here and I am looking forward to a fantastic year with Grade 5 at GSIS. My wife Isabel is also teaching at GSIS and she has the Grade 3 class. We have 3 boys that are grown up, with two that are married and we are also delighted to have welcomed into the world our first grandchild Arthur who is 14 months old.
Over the next few days I will be spending time getting to know the students, setting classroom expectations for the year, and completing a range of activities to assist me establish the academic levels and next learning step for each of the children.
All books and stationary will be handed out in the first week, with all the stationary requirements for your child being provided by the school. Please ensure that your child has a snack for the 10:00 o'clock break to maintain their energy levels throughout the morning.
Homework requirements will be outlined over the next few days but it is important that your child reads for at least 10 minutes every evening.
